Celebrate History on Your Historic Vehicle with Vintage Kentucky Plates
Embrace Kentucky's Rich Automotive Heritage
Kentucky's rich history extends beyond its legendary bourbon and horse racing. The state also has a long-standing automotive tradition that enthusiasts can celebrate by displaying vintage license plates on their historic vehicles.
Displaying Authentic Plates
For vehicles at least 25 years old, Kentucky law allows the display of authentic license plates from the same year the vehicle was manufactured. These plates must be in good condition and clearly legible.
Reproduction Vintage Plates
If you cannot acquire an authentic plate, you can opt for a reproduction vintage plate. These plates must adhere to the same design and specifications as the original plates and be produced by an authorized vendor.
Requirements for Historic Vehicle Status
To qualify as a historic vehicle in Kentucky, your vehicle must be at least 35 years old, in original or unrestored condition, and not used for daily transportation.
Application Process
To display a vintage or reproduction plate on your historic vehicle, you must submit an application to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The application includes a fee and requires documentation proving the vehicle's age and historic status.
Benefits of Vintage Plates
Displaying vintage license plates not only adds character to your historic vehicle but also: * Preserves Kentucky's automotive heritage * Differentiates your vehicle from others on the road * Attracts attention from car enthusiasts and collectors
